BF 13 wk old now fussy on evening bottle - why - any ideas?

DS2 has had a bottle of EBM every evening before bed given by DH since he was 4 wks old. He's now 13wks and for the past 7 days has been fussy on the bottle and refused to drink any more than 2 or 3oz, he was having 5 or 6oz.

Anyone have any idea why he may have started to do this when he has been absolutely fine up to this last week? I did think that maybe the teat was too slow now so we have gone up to the next size with absolutely no change in behaviour. We went through the 3 month growth spurt about 2 weeks ago and during the day he is still BF just fine, every 3hours - it's really puzzling us, so anyone who may be able to offer any insight or clues very welcome!

You know what? I think they just go through a really fussy stage at 13/14 weeks. My DD did and then it just stopped...

Anyone else with any ideas?

This could have been my dd a few months ago. She was fed a bottle of ebm from 3 weeks but starting rejecting it at 12 weeks. We carried out...altho poor dh got a bit upset by all the shreiking and took it personally. After a week or so it stopped and normal service resumed...hope you get the same result.

Ta - hope it is just a phase, as like your DH Notyummy, mine is getting really down about it as he really enjoys it normally and I like having that time to spend with DS1 before bed too.

Crikey, this is horrible - screamed his head off at the bottle again tonight and DH is totally fed up, which I'm certain doesn't help. We are going to persevere for another 3 days but I don't think any of us can go beyond that - he is too loud! Just wish we could rewind a week, he was really happy on the bottle then, won't even fall asleep on it now, like he used to

This has been going on for almost 2 weeks now, and he still refuses to drink EBM from a bottle, I've even been tasting it to check it's OK and it's fine! aarrrgghh!

I find my 12 wk old ds is just fussy in the evening... if I don't feed him in a dark room doing lots of "shhh" ing and making generally sympathetic positive noises, he just gets himself into a state of not being able to eat or sleep. He's very easy normally, just a bit of a drama king after about 5:30...

orangina · 28/04/2007 20:02

Could you try him on a bottle earlier in the day, just to be sure it's not the bottle?

docket · 28/04/2007 20:04

could it be wind from faster teat?

DebsCee · 28/04/2007 20:12

I think that trying him earlier in the day with the same bottle/teat etc is a good idea, shall get DH to try tomorrow midday. Thanks for that.

It's just so frustrating because we know he can do it, because he had been doing it for 9 weeks with no problems, no fussiness or crying and we haven't changed a thing!

Well, we have progress - he has started taking the bottle of EBM again in the evenings - just one of those fussy things I guess, and we changed nothing, just persisted every evening as normal - weird!
