Baffled by bleeding nipple after 4 months B/Fing!

I was dismayed today to find one of my nipples bleeding. Every time I have fed my LO since it has started up again and is very sore. Anyone any experience of this happening after 4 months? I thought it was something that happened at the start and here was me thinking I'd finally cracked B/Fing!

Also is it damaging to LO as the blood is in my milk and therefore entering his system....

Not damaging at all, bebe - may come out the other end as black, though. But it is in no way harmful.

Occasionally, I have come across a mother whose nipples become sore as a result of what has happened to the baby's saliva - one very allergic mother had this happen after her baby started solids. Could this be what has happened to you? Other possibility is the baby has a tooth coming through and it has snagged on your nipple.

It could of course be a change in the positioning and attachment but this is v. unusual after this time.

Is it definitely broken skin?

Thanks TikTok.

In answer to your Qs - LO not on solids yet so can´t be that.
I have thought that he may be teething but I can´t actually see a tooth poking through...
The skin is definitely broken so I am somewhat bemused

Thanks for the reassurance about the blood, I was worried it might be harmful.

Hopefully it will rectify itself...

I have heard that babies saliva sometimes changes when they are teething & some mums can get sore nipples as a result - maybe it could be that?

Correct, terramum - I forgot about that.
