Confused about iron.

Hi all, I know I'm probably making more of this than I need to but I need someone with more common sense than I to come along and talk some sense into me.

Ok, so I'm confused about iron in babies. My DD is 7 months old and FF alongside eating a menagerie of food.

I've read that iron stores deplete after 6 months and they need the extra iron to supplement their diets, however I know that although follow on milk contains extra iron my HV told me not to bother and carry on with Aptamil 1st.

How do I know if she is getting enough iron in her diet? She has red meats and veg but I'm flapping that she is going to end up anaemic. I've also read that too much iron can cause liver problems so ruling out iron drops and the like.

Can someone please give me a slap and tell me what your babies of similar age consist of? Or explain this huge iron riddle I seem to have created in my own mind?

Thanks all. Sorry it's long!

What your babies DIETS consist of. Not your actual babies. That would be an odd question Confused

I think you're overthinking it. The formula will have iron in it already just not the extra that follow on has (which can cause constipation). If your lo is also taking foods that contain iron then I can't see how they would become deficient.

First formula contains enough iron and is he only formula that is necessary, no need for follow on or iron drops.

I know I am overthinking it, I sound irrational even to myself! Thanks for replying, I will switch off the iron-o-obsession from here on out and carry on as I am.

Thanks ladies

Don't worry. With the formula, red meat and veg, should all be fine!!!!
