Breastmilk makes baby sick

Dd2 is almost 7 months. The last 2 days every time she has a breastfeed she throws it all back again.
When she has solid food shes fine.
In between feeds shes happy and alert although not herself but I'm worried about her getting dehydrated. Her nappy was dry this morning.
She refuses bottles and cups.
Shall I continue bf her even though it makes her sick as its her only source of liquid?

go to gp. is she eating anything else? get her checked anyway.

She'll eat anything solid but won't drink.
Could it be because I'm pregnant?
I'll get her seen this morning

I'd offer lots of wet solid food.

Also, are you sure she's throwing it all back up again? A full feed is going to be lots of ounces at her age, and just a few tablespoons of liquid, thrown up, can look like a lot? (I know, you probably already know this, I'm being optimistic by suggesting maybe she's keeping some of the milk?)

I'd try a range of bottles and cups, and offer juice or similar.

And also go to the GP.

Shes sick until she can't bring anything else up. Its such a shame for her.
I've just got her to have some boiled water on a spoon which has stayed down.
When she started nursery they tried to get her to drink out of every cup and bottle they had with no luck, shes too stubborn!

don't know re pregnancy princess, might be worth looking on internet before you go in case gp is not clued up on bf.

if she's eating it hoepfully isn't anything too sinister, but a dry nappy in the morning is def worth an investigation.

Lots of MNers have breastfed a baby through a pregnancy, without any problem.

I worry the GP might tell you to stop breastfeeding though, which wouldn't be nice, if you don't want to stop. Still, with dehydration a risk, I'd want to see a medic.

I doubt that it is breastmilk that is making her sick. It would be unusual for a 7 month old who has been bf all along to start reacting to bm all of a sudden. I am no expert, but it doesn't make sense to me. It may be the solids and there is some delayed reaction before she throws up. If anything bm should be the thing that makes her the least sick as it is absorbed very quickly whereas solids or formula are not so well absorbed.

Could it be a tummy bug, in which case continue with bf ? Perhaps your GP can tell.

Yes, I too fear that the first thing a GP/HV would say is stop bf, which may not be the best advice.

Back from the gp. She was lovely.
Checked dd over and said she thought it was a tummy bug and she thinks she was bringing everything back not just milk.
She suggested I just breastfeed her for the next few days to give her tummy time to settle down.
She said theres no reason to not breastfeed throughout the pregnancy as long as I feel up to it and if I'm worried or need anymore advice I can ring and speak to her or pop in and see her.
She said she breastfed for almost 6 years without stopping throughout 3 pregnancies!

Princess - glad you got it all sorted. I would have been shocked if your GP had suggested stopping bf.
