Breastfeeding advise for 4days old baby

Just looking for anyone who can give me some positive advise. My son is 4days old, I'm breastfeeding which was going ok now my milk has come in he seems to be eating milk constantly. I'm struggling to latch him on and stay there ! He has a few sucks then goes all floppy so I put him down and he wakes again and is just a vicious circle over and over. Not sure how to stimulate him to latch and stay.

Congratulations! Advice given to me was to try stroking his cheek, back of neck. Though he will be building up your supply and pretty much feeding constantly too.

lorza, this is normal newborn behaviour....fighting it is just stressful :)

Now you should be watching for those poos to change colour and texture, and have him weighed today or tomorrow. This should reassure you all is well.

Try gently blowing on his face or tickling his feet......

Skin to skin will stimulate him to feed better. .

Congratulations first of all.

& I had this with my eldest, you need to strip & change their nappy before a feed so they're awake, put on breast then when they start falling asleep, tickle cheek & feet to wake them up & if it's been over ten minutes I used to switch breast which would wake him up more.

It is normal, just need to try wake him enough to feed.

Cluster feeding like this is very normal, he is building your supply all you can do is go with it. Take your top and bra off, get comfy with Netflix and plenty of drinks and snacks within arms reach and get baby down to just a nappy to have plenty of skin to skin. If he is getting sleepy while on the boob, stroke his cheeks or soles of his feet, or hold his hand and move his fingers about a bit. A nappy change before a feed can wake them up a bit too, or switching sides to get a faster flow of milk. Dd had jaundice and was constantly falling asleep on the boob and losing her latch, it is repetitive and tiring but it will get so much better in just a few days. I really miss the sleepy newborn feeds now as I have to practically wrestle with dd now at 10 months to get her to concentrate on feeding!

Thank you for all your advise ladies. I really want to stick at it as I know once we have the knack life will be much easier ! It's challenging with a 20month old toddler to. Don't want my parter to go back to work he'd been such a help !
