My baby girl is 7 weeks old when she was born she was 8lb 13oz and now she is only 9lb 12oz, i am worried as she has lost 3oz in he past week and a half and the health visitor is talking about putting her on formula if she does not increase in the next week.

How can i increase my milk supply? I think it maybe low as i have been ill for two weeks with mastitis and then a bad cold....i am guessing sickness can effect milk supply?

Also my baby has been frequently filling her nappy with really watery poos, within the space of a minute (and a few huge farts!)the nappy is overflowing. Is this what baby diarrhoea is like?

Also I was recommended to take baby to bed for a few days and just feed continuously, as it is a supply and demand thing, rest is also really important fo ryou

Munchies, the very fact your HV has asked you to do this should give you a powerful clue about the level of her knowledge of breastfeeding.....pretty close to zero, I would think

That's brilliant. Well done. It just shows you should trust yourself and not be put off by clueless hvs! . A pound in a week is quite an acheivement!

Munchies - you know what I think has happened? I don't actually believe your baby has put on a pound in a week - I think it far more likely she has been weighed incorrectly the first time, or perhaps the translation from metric to imperial has been incorrect.

I don't think she lost 3 oz last week either. She probably put on half a pound last week, and another half pound this week (or the equivalent).

You've been messed about by an incompetent as well as unsupportive HV

I think my explanation is far more likely than a healthy baby losing 3 oz one week and putting on a pound the next.....

And I bet your mind's been put at rest
