would you give an 11 month old baby cow's milk instead of formula as a main drink?

I must admit, I am considering it. He drinks so little of it anyway, and he might prefer proper milk.

WWYD?

at 11 months, I think I would

colditz · 15/03/2007 23:17

he eats yoghurt, cheese etcetc. Non of which is made with formula. He probably gets 6 oz of furmula a day. I wonder if that 6 oz is worth me walking for 45 minutes to the one flipping shop in this tow that sells the only formula he will flaming well drink!

If it was because you wouldn't get through whole tin before 12 months or because he doesn't like taste of formula, then yes I might. Otherwise, think I'd give formula because I think it's got more vits and things in it than plain cows' milk.

LadyPenelope · 15/03/2007 23:19

Crossed posts... no don't think I would bother in those circs..

fishie · 15/03/2007 23:19

don't see why not if he is eating reasonably well, isn't formula just cows milk with things added? so same diet as milk and food anyway.

JodieG1 · 15/03/2007 23:19

Yep I would.

colditz · 15/03/2007 23:21

He does eat reasonably well. what vits could he be lacking by moving to cows milk?

I would definitely go with the cows milk Colditz. I wish I could for my 7.5 month old - I must say I'm not wholly convinced of the benefits of formula even at his age when he's got a good varied diet.

colditz · 15/03/2007 23:24

With ds1 I counted down the days until he 'could' have it - but he drank all milk like a fish until he stopped having a bottle at 2.5.

6 0z isn't a lot during the day, so its not like he'd be missing out on anything in the formula by having cows milk

PippiLangstrump · 15/03/2007 23:36

I did, I think, or just about after. gosh I don't remember anymore. I should have wrote everything down like DM suggested...

colditz · 16/03/2007 08:01

he has just had his morning bottle and slugged the lot!

i gave him moo juice. but I am going to watch his skin to see if he has any effects.
