Hi, wondering if anyone else has had as rubbish a time with SMA stay down formula as me. DD v sicky so was advised to switch from aptimil to something like this but despite following the stupid instructions to the letter and after a phonecall to the helpline didnt help i am still finding it goes too thick and won't come out of the teat so poor dd gets v upset. i even tried it myself and couldnt get it out! Anyone else found same thing or using it successfully. Or an other milk reccomendations for this sort of problem? We have tried gaviscon. dd takes medicine 8 times a day so is understandably a bit more sicky than most.I had an intolerance to cows milk as a chld so am hoping she hasnt got that, wanted to try one of thses anti sick milks b4 i resort to cutting that out.

I have tried the sma one , but DS is was very sicky too, I am now using Cow and Gate, gentle digestion. It seems to be working fine. He is not sicky any more and has no problems with it. Doesnt seem to thick either.

Oh thanks, i will try that next i think. Expensive habit this milk switching thing! The sma stay down has corn starch as a thickener so works to keep it down somehow or thats the idea, maybe it just DOE'NT work tho!

hiya everyone,

Just thought I would drop a note here..

Got a set of twin girls. When born intensly sick on SMA gold. Each time I gave them this they threw up all over the place, in torrents..moved to cow and gate...girls settled a little but then same problem.

We resorted to Aptimel, which we brought in ready mixed, prepared cartons...but this time both were colic, so we then changed their bottles to Dr Browns bottles and teats...and also gave them colief (prescripted on prescription, otherwise is it £10 at bottle)...worked a treat....life really changed at that point...

Not sure if this is useful or not...

I used staydown for my youngest 3 years ago.

She was awful with reflux but this helped her.

You can't make this milk in advance and store in the fridge like most other milk.

I used to put the steralised bottles of boiled water in the fridge, and then add milk powder to each bottle, after re-heating water to the correct temp.

I was told NOT to add the powder and then re-heat.

Hope this helps?

we used cow and gate comfort stuff too, found using a cross hole (variflow) teat made the formula flow better as it is thicker than normal stuff same as the sma staydown.
turned out to be a lactose allergy, so dont dismiss this.. espes if in ur family like mine!

used2bthin · 11/03/2007 21:06

Thanks for your suggestions, yes am thinking lactose intolerance, oh dear! I think the cow and gate is so far no better than aptimil for sickiness. Am covered in it as we speak (sorry if too much info!)

Fussymummy i think that may be where i was going wrong tho, i was mixing the milk in the refridgerated water then heating it with tepid water, perhaps i should've heated the water a little first.

Also we haven't tried colief yet. Had gaviscon on prescription for most of first 3 months but i think itworks in a different way?) Anyway thanks, that may be the next step if the milk thing isnt any better.

Enfamil AR formula powder ( you get it from the pharmacist) is fantastic
