Rash on boob - anyone had similar?

Hi

Sorry, my last post on this read all wrong in the title.

My left breast is half covered in a red rash, with raised red bumps and my nipple looks like it's been pricked with a red tipped needle. There's no pain in the breast, just external itching.

DD is 13 mnths old , I returned to work this week so now only has a first and last thing breastfeed. I express at lunchtime as boobs are a bit lumpy.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks
Lucy

Sounds very like thrush - I had it with both mine. Easily treated but you must see GP asap to get the cream.

That's both my children and both my breasts

Hi Lucy

It does sounds like thrush to me - I have it too, started on one side and now got it on the other boob! Get to the drs and get some anti-fungal cream.

Hi
Thanks for your replies

The Doctor said it was thrush (although he didn't actually look at my boob!). He said to use canesten cream but I haven't got to the chemist yet and today it seems a lot better... wondering whether I should use the cream or if I'll be ok without it?

Thanks
Lucy

From my experience you must treat thrush or the breastfeeding becomes terribly painful. I seem to remember that you had to treat yourself and the baby, or else you pass it back and forth to the other. Your GP sounds slightly lackadaisical - maybe your HV would be better. I had to give up breastfeeding because I didn't know what was wrong with me and I left it a long time before I got help, so I'd urge you not to make the same mistake !!

steinermum is right mum and baby MUST be treated - you with cream and baby with oral med ie nystan. you can continue to breastfeed but use treatment until you are both clear.
