Wedding outfit with BFing access

We have a wedding to attend in May and I will still be BFing my DS when we attend. I have hardly been out in the 6 months since he was born so I am desperate to find a really good outfit and glam up for the day, get hair and nails done etc. The problem I am having is to find any breastfeeding dresses that are smart / formal enough for the occasion. Most things just look really frumpy and are in a jersey material or similar. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations?

When I had this I wore a top and skirt combination, kind of a 50s style a line type skirt. Easy to bf and still looked wedding smart, especially with jacket, heels and nice bag.

I wore this from phase eight about 9 months ago. The top is v neck and crosses over so I could whip a boob out.

Something similar would be good - nice and structured and a flattering full skirt

Maybe a wrap dress like this one

JoJoMamanBebe do some nice nursing dresses in different styles.

You could also look for Séraphine dresses. I'm not sure who stocks them apart from John Lewis but there are other stores. I've got one of their lovely colour block nursing dresses that will be doing its third big event in February (two weddings and a baptism). It's easy care and so simple to nurse. I'm even feeding my 3 week old in SIL's wedding photos and you can't tell. Grin

There are some nice ones here are Tiffany Rose.

Have you heard of the Facebook group "can I breastfeed in it?" It's all about clothes suitable for breastfeeding, perhaps give it a go? Tiffany Rose have lovely things including some specific nursing dresses which I find helpful, ds won't tolerate being covered so scarves etc. don't work for us, they are quite pricy though. Seraphine are also nice. Asos are also pretty good for nursing (put nursing into the search engine). Good luck!

Second recommendation for the Can I Breastfeed In It? group. And for doing separate top and skirt. I got a full skirt and a sort of layered top both from Coast for a wedding and feeding was fine.

Staff in two separate branches of Coast were really helpful when I said I wanted to be able to feed and picked some things out for me

Another vote for 'Can I breastfeed in it?' Be prepared for your bank balance to suffer though! I have been know to spend night feeds doing a little online shopping Blush

Not sure what you are looking to spend but have a look at the Blonde and Wise website. Dresses are gorgeous, I want them all!

Hedgeh0g · 07/01/2017 19:29

Meant to say, it's the Blonde and Wise trench dress that is supposedly very easy to breastfeed in (according to Can I breastfeed in it) It comes in loads of different materials.

OP I had the same problem. Ended up getting a really affordable breastfeeding dress off ASOS (under maternity dress section).

When I was my sisters bridesmaid I wore a dress for the ceremony then changed into a fancy suit (skirt and jacket) in a similar colour (gold ish) with a plain tip for the evening for breastfeeding access.

All great suggestions, thanks ladies. I will have a look at all of these options and join that Facebook group too.

Last summer I bought a navy pencil skirt and a navy breastfeeding top from next. Nice cardi, bag and heels. looked and felt really good.

binkybonk · 12/01/2017 14:44

I've attend two siblings weddings while BF ds1&2 and will be attending sister's this summer whilst bf too- bad timing all round!!
But each time I've worn a strapless dress... pop 'em out the top and Bob's your uncle!
They were both from coast and have worn them since (when not BF) so seems less wasteful than buying it just for feeding purposes.

IamChipmunk · 16/01/2017 12:42

If the wedding is at a hotel and depending on how frequent feeds are is a 'normal' dress am option and just take ds to ur room to feed so you can just unzip ur dress?

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 16/01/2017 12:44

By then your DC will be almost one, so will likely only feed morning and night by then so I would just wear what you like!
