how long after stopping bf do you start getting periods again?

quick question...i've started giving ds ff and now only bf 3 times a day and am wondering how long it will be before i start getting periods again? anyone?

I found mine only came back when I was bf twice a day. In fact, it was them coming back that made me think he couldn't be drinking much, so I stopped!

well my periods never came back but i got pregnant about 3 months after i stopped night feeding and dd was on 3 solid meals a day and feeding about 3/4 times a day

thanks molly...don't think it will be long then...starting to feel more activity in the uterus area...might be my ovaries cranking back in to action again!

I stopped feeding altogether 6 weeks ago, and so far nothing. From memory with DS1 it was ages after stopping.

I stopped bf on christmas day and started exactly a month later. My nan fell pregnant still bf and so did my MIL.

My periods came back 6 months after the birth, and it coincided with changing from all-BF to mixed feeding.

DD1 - 4 weeks after post birth bleeding stopped and were as regular as clockwork until I got pregnant with DD2 when DD1 was 9 months.

DD2 - she was 11 months before they came back. We were down to about 3 BFs in the day about 4 (sad) at night.

The nurse at my GP practice told me that as long as you were exclusively bf you wouldn't get pregnant, but that as soon as a drop of anything else passed your dc's lips (seriously, she phrased it like this) you would ovulate...

...I've read enough stories on here to know that this is not good contraceptive advice

i would love to get pg again...but then if you didn't have a period, and you did get pg, how would you know? (sounds stupid i know, but keeps crossing my mind)

I've had 3 af's, DS2 is almost 6 months and still mainly bf. He was exc bf til 3 wks ago when I returned to work. He has 2 ff during the day when I'm at work which is 3 days a wk.

I must have got the short straw then, both DDs were exclusively BF for 6 months then slowly BLWed. DD1 was never a hungry baby though and I had to remember to feed her, she slept through the night at 6 weeks so no night time feeds probably triggered ovulation.

within 6 weeks of all my dcs being born back to normal periods. after my 3rd dd, when i mentioned this to my hv she told me that was not possible as i was exclusively bf on demand (have bf all of them). i went to the dr and he went mad, saying she was giving crap advice and that women thought they couldn't get pg when given advice like that, etc,etc.

Periods came back when dd was 5 mths old and still bf exclusively - not sure how common this is though - I was surprised!

Mine came back as soon as I swapped one feed a day for formula i.e went down to 4 feeds a day. Ds was 6 months old

My period came back after 3 months since the birth of my son, and I was 100 per cent breastfeeding at the time, and got pregnant one month later!
