Cluster feeding! Help!

Hi!

My 4 week old gorgeous girl is so settled and content in the day and night really until 5pm-10pm on a night! All she wants to do is feed feed feed and gets upset and angry which makes her not able to latch on properly and just generally distressed!

I'm sure this is normal cluster feeding as she ticks all the boxes that it describes online! It just seems a lot of upset for her and I don't know if it's worth it! It's making me want to bottle feed!

I also feel I can't/daren't go out any where or have people round past 5pm as she's too upset and constantly feeding!

It's a difficult time, but it doesn't sound as if it is anything other than a normal period of fussiness and need for closeness, OP. Sometimes babies this age are all confused and distressed esp in the evenings, and they are just not able to wind down and become calm enough to feed properly.

It passes. It's not necessarily a BF thing - she could be just the same on bottles. No indication from what you say that your life would be any easier if she was FF, or that she would be happier.

Thanks tiktok I've spoken to a few friends and looked online and it all just seems to be these 'fussy periods' etc! She is now settled fast asleep with her Ewan the dream sheep playing songs to her

Oh I could have posted the same thing this week! Baby girl is 3 weeks tomorrow and turns into a different baby between 5 and 10 just as you describe!
She will only relax on me but I cannot put her down or she wakes straight up and starts screaming. She also has trouble latching when like this and mouths the breast, head butts it, chews her hands in anger etc. It's very frustrating and upsetting.
We figured it was colic?

Swaddling, holding her sideways/tiger hold, white noise etc work for a short while. My nipples are already damaged and having her on them for 5 hours an evening, pulling away and chewing in anger is not helping our breastfeeding journey
