bottle refusal please help!!

My dd1 refused bottles from 4 months having taken them from 6 weeks - I really didn't want this to happen again so started early with dd2 (4 weeks) she was taking them fine and just this past week started to take less and the last 2 days won't at all. She gags badly and screams

Any ideas or advice greatly appreciated as I desperately want to succeed this time. It's all been expressed breast milk...

It's starting to make me so frustrated!!

She is 8 weeks old and I've also tried different people giving and waiting until really hungry....

No advice really but I do sympathise!!

DS wouldn't take a bottle of BM or F so I ended up BF till he was 9.5 months. I'd only really planned on doing 6 months! We tried different formulas and different bottles / teats. DH tried feeding him with me out the house so he wouldn't smell my BM.

I used to get very upset and teary over it. DH was fantastic support and we set a date and went cold turkey. The morning of no BF he took a bottle no problem...I couldn't believe the struggle we'd had and then the cheeky sod just took the bottle!

Keep persevering, and do you have support at home from a partner or parents / ILS?

Could she have reflux? So its not so much the bottle that shes refusing but she gets sore when she does?

Thanks, I bf dd1 until 15 months as she was so stubborn!!! Hence why I'm so anxious to nip this in the bud!!!

Yes I do have Husband but he's rarely here as works a lot .

I'm wondering whether to just try once a day ? Also if she doesn't take it what happens? Do I just give in and bf??

Or do I keep trying at each feed??

Or do I wait a while and give her a break from it before trying again?

Have you changed the teats to a faster flow? Might help..

Yes moved up to faster flow. So she was taking with newborn one but had started to take hardly any be really slow so I moved up to size 2 and that's when these issues have started but now happens with 1 or 2 regardless

I've just ordered a munchkin latch bottle which is new and meant to be most like a breast!?!

It could be a teething thing- sensitivity to teats caused by sore gums..

Do you use infacol or anything else before feeding?

DD 1 did get teeth at 11 weeks...

Yes use infacol before every feed!!

Gosh- I hope it gets better for you. My dd does this sometimes but it only seems to last a day or two. I put it down to sensitive gums. We get milk in her by feeding her until she's upset, giving her the dummy for a bit to calm down, then try again.....

I'd recommend trying a different brand - the teats vary greatly from one to another. DS really struggled with Tommy Tippee so we switched to Avent. Other babies will be fine with TT.

Ah my ds1 didn't take a bottle until he was 7 months so, like you, started ds2 on 1 per day at 4 weeks. We're now in the same boat. He's not interested at all and will only calm down with boob!

Have a wedding to go to early next month and baby not invited so not sure what the hell im going to do.

If I find something that works will let you know!

How old is he?

I tried every single bottle on the market with DS1 (bought single bottles on Amazon Prime) and persevered from 4 weeks old. It was painful as he just refused or took one one day and not the next. One day I heated the milk a bit more than usual (obviously still a safe heat) and he gulped it down. Breast milk is warmer than you think so make sure milk is warm enough. I know it's against guidelines but I always used the microwave to heat it. Obvs shook it well and tested first.

Oh and it was a Dr Browns bottle that worked eventually. He was about 10 weeks by this point.

I feel your pain dd1 swapped no trouble at all. Dd2 (15 weeks) totally refuses a bottle. Persevering though, as I appreciate the freedom the odd bottle gives you!

Limes he's 10 weeks. I want to continue breastfeeding, but do one bottle a day to give me a break. I remember with ds1 struggling to get my hair cut etc so this time around was determined for a bit more flexibility.

Will try the tip up thread about heating the milk more. Makes sense.

I've just ordered a minbie bottle... When in doubt throw loads of money at the problem ha ha!!! Seems fairly similar to the munchkin latch but we will see!!!!

Are you doing it or someone else? I think they tend to do better with bottles with someone else.

If it is teething, maybe try putting some teething gel around the teat to help sloth the gums? My dd also won't take a bottle well at all. She's now almost 11 months and I go back to work in two weeks. The only bottle she will take an ounce or two from is the mam one that you can unscrew to sterilise on its own. She's had settle sessions at nursery and will just drink water from a cup and then feed like crazy when she gets home. She's only had the odd morning there so far though and first full day on Friday so we shall see how she goes! Good luck!!
