Hi, baby girl now 7 wks, still bf but I have been giving one or two formula feeds at night as gradually will move to formula completely. Started with SMA Gold but ds1 became constipated then moved onto Aptimel but baby seemed to get red spots on both cheeks and then moved onto Farleys but baby very sick and constipated. DS1 seemed happier with Aptimel but for the spots - I am unsure if this was due to the formula or heat or something else. Has anyone else experienced this reaction to the formula? Also, is there any other formula that I should try??

Do you have to move to formula?

i have a very very very hungry baby who feeds every 2 - 2 1/2 hours so am absolutely shattered. Want to give formula a couple of times at night so that i can get some sleep! The formula does seem to satisfy her, well the Aptimel did more than the others but for the spots!

There's a good chance that if you give formula at night, your supply will drop and you'll need to feed her more often.

Can you stop the formula for a bit - I know how hard it is with sleep deprivation, I really do, but it doesn't sound like it's agreeing with her. Then try going to bed early for a few nights, or co-sleeping - that was the only way I got more sleep in the early weeks.

If I were you I'd stick with the breastfeeding. It would be awful if you swapped and your little one had problems. It's much harder to then change your mind.

If you really want to move to formula (I totally understand) then how about trying a soya based product or Goats milk based product. Good Luck x

Re the spots - do they look like a rash from what you would get if you were stung by stinging nettles ? My daughter had that reaction to formula milk ( we tried several - farleys gave out the worst reaction!) turned out she had an allergy to cows milk - so we switched to soya based formula which did the trick .

it looks more like individual spots as opposed to a rash. I have now breastfed completely for two days and nights and they have significantly reduced. I am now thinking of introducing one formula at night - Cow & Gate (green). Has anyone experienced a bad reaction to this formula?
HunkerMunker - thanks for your advice and I would like to keep bf but unfortunately I have an infection on both and therefore very sore to bf. Dr has prescribed antibiotics and can't believe i am still bf!!
