What age can babies drink tap water?

Have just started weaning my 6 month old DS and all the advice states to start offering water with meals - does this have to be cooled, boiled water or is it ok straight out of the tap at this age?

I gave tap water long before this. If you let it stand in the fridge for a while it loses that chlorine taste too.
