..... for the first time ever. she's 19 months. it was surprisingly easy actually. she is however in our bed, so i am aiming to wear a top to bed tonight .

looking forward to a reinvigoured social life!

My experience with dd was that after I weaned her from the breast at 17 months, she suddenly went from waking up to 3x an hour (no typo here) to sleeping for 5 hour stretches almost immediately gradually lengthening over the months.

Her speech was also slow. I weaned during a nursing strike. Sad but got my sanity back.

reading this thread with interest - we're mid way through stopping dd2 18months feeding through the night.

This will be the 3rd night - i feed her before she goes to sleep, then dp gets up with her each time she wakens. The first night was awful (and I went out and bought earplugs for second night!). The second night she could settle herself with dp's help in about 5-10mins, fingers crossed tonight will be even better.

With dd1, i seem to remember that the 3rd night was the last one with any night wakings and then she was sleeping through. Lets hope dd2 follows in her footsteps.

Good luck with tonight everyone

2nd night & she's asleep again. a bit of protest (maybe 2 mins of me cuddling her & crying), then she settled down, had her milk from her beaker, i sang baa baa black sheep rather a lot & cuddled her to sleep. very pleased. I am hoping the night wakings will reduce soon.

boobs a bit sore now. will take neurofen i think. interesting that so many people have had/are having/might have in the future similar experiences.

it's funny that w've ALL decided to do this at the exact same time!
3rd night. he went to sleep ok. when he asked for 'guppin' i just kept saying 'guppin is all done' and he eventually went to sleep.
had been up twice since then. and has settled again within 10 minutes. cried a little bit the last time but not for very long.
i think i'll keep doing this and still feed him during the night if he wants it. then next weekend he's cut off til morning.
what's that in the distance? is it a light at the end of the tunnel?....

Thats not mean Aviatrix! Much better that he's having some sleep at all. Soon he'll forget about having it at that time. My dd is stopping (by herself) the afternoon one and thats because her sleep times are changing and she's sometimes asleep then, so has naturally missed having it.

HC and PMD, I'm very pleased for you that you managed to get your two down with no bf .I really don't think dd would accept any other milk in a cup. I'm sure she wouldn't!

I also think if dh went in and just comforted her with out bringing her to me for milk, that she'd be hysterical.

I'm so not ready to do that yet!!!

I'm watching this to see how you get on.

20 months sounds very young to drop ALL naps . Maybe he's a fab sleeper and sleeps ALL night.
My ds stopped having a nap at 3 and still drops off in the car now at 4 if he's very tired. .

purplemonkeydishwasher · 21/01/2007 10:02

uhhggggg...
when we went up to bed last night he was fast asleep. then started to stir...
he can't just wake up and lay there though. no, not my DS. the SECOND he wakes up even a little he sits up.
so for the next hour or so he would cry. i'd rock him he'd fall asleep on my chest. it would have been fine but for some reason last night i just couldn't sleep that way so everytime i'd try to get him off...more tears. at about 1:30 i gave in and gave him the boob. though since he wasn't actually screaming a the time i'm hoping (haha) that he won't think that crying will get him what he wants (HAHAHAHA)
this morning he keeps asking for food but won't eat anything. grrrrrr.....

princessmel · 21/01/2007 10:17

Maybe he has a cold or a bug coming???

purplemonkeydishwasher · 21/01/2007 11:13

maybe. he's done this before though. mostly i think he just wants his mommy's milk. making up for not having it before bed??

princessmel · 21/01/2007 11:31

Yes he could be. Its funny, you're trying to stop the before-bed milk but not the night milk and I'd like to stop the in the night milk not the before-bed!! She doesn't actually feed to sleep though. Has milk then goes down awake.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 21/01/2007 12:07

that's my goal for the week. during the night feeds are the next to go! baby steps!

dd did this last night. She's 18 months

god it was liberating

I am going the hardcore night weaning route atm which I am really about but I am useless without sleep. And I now have not slept through the night for oooh (how old is ds....?) 3 1/2 years.

But she's taking to it suprisingly well. She is not nearly as grumpy in the day.

I don't thik I could have done it any sooner...and I am very clear in my head that I have done it mainly for me and ds, not for her BUT

omg it is sooo much better having a bit of sleep!

(does mean much less MNetting though

hoxtonchick · 21/01/2007 17:12

dd slept for ages last night, from 8 'til about 1 or 2 i reckon. she woke up a couple of times briefly during the night but was cuddled back to sleep fairly easily.

she asked for didi when tired this afternoon, but we were at a party so distraction was fairly easy. am going out tonight so lets see how dp does. he has his snuggly jumper on in preparation...

tits still like rocks though. owwwwwwwww. anyone know how long the engorgement will last?

i think dd slept through last night . can't say for sure, as who knows what i don't remember. but when she does wake up in the night now, she has a quick yell then lies straight back down for a cuddle. sooooooooooo different for feeding for hours & hours every night.

dp put her to bed on sun night & it was ok. admittedly she was asleep downstairs when i got home. but not awake & whimpering for me as she was last week.

boobs were really sore on sunday, & quite scarily lumpy. they're better now, only tender when bashed (thank you ds & dd!).

fingers crossed for next week purplemonkey!

wow, dd has just gone to bed with no fuss at all in her own bed!! she's been sleeping so much better since i stopped b-feeding her, so we've decided to see if she'll spend the night in her own bed. watch this space....
