DD on hunger strike !! First day at childminders...... Help....

DD (25wks) had her first full day at the childminders today. I dropped her off at 7am having fed (BF) and changed her. When picked her up at 3pm, she had not had anything at all all day !! As soon as I walked through the door, she started grumbling and took a full feed (BF as my boobs were exploding !!). She is well used to tking feeds from bottles and formula during the day time.

Any advice needed desperately ! I've got to drop her off again in the morning and she really can't afford to not eat or lose weight.

Any ideas anybody ????? She'sbeen fed by other people before, so not sure whats going on now..... HELP !!

DD (now 10 mths) has only ever taken 1 oz at childminders - takes milk fine at home from anyone ... no help, sorry, but much sypathy. CM stuffs her with yoghurts/cheese, and I give her loads morning & evening on work days (but I only work 2 days)
Let me know if you find a soln - we've been trying for 3 months now...

My DS1 has refused to eat when in an unusual situation. And there's a baby at the co-op that won't accept food (or bottles) from anyone other than his mum or dad. This is normal. She'll probably adjust to being at the childminders and start eating and drinking normally.

Good to hear she's not the only one being picky, but I really do need to sort it out quickly cos she's only 12 and a half pounds anyway at 25 wks.

I'm crossing my fingers hoping she'll get hungry enough to eat tomorrow !!

Just picked DD up and again, she's hardly had anything !!

Dropped her off this morning and stayed with Childminder while she gave her some of a bottle. When I'd gone, DD had the rest of the bottle (about 5 oz total) then refused point blank to have any more until I got there at 4pm. She then took another 4oz or so from the childminder while I was there. Pulling my hair out now.... she really can't afford weightwise to be refusing to eat all day long. She's making up for it at night etc, but she's going to start losing weight and I'm losing sleep !!!

Any ideas ?????????

How often each week will she be going?

every day? or less

Has she been settling in at the minders? if so how long over how many days?

She's been visiting with me lots & was only child there during daytime, so gets loads of attention. Is going 3 or 4 days a week. She's not all upset at being there, happy as larry and smiling all day.....
When I left her today she was absolutely starving (she'd slept through !!!!!!) and still wouldn't take bottle off CM - kicking and screaming... Couldn't leave her not having eaten since 11pm, so I gave her the same bottle - no problems ! grrrrrrr!!
Am going to speak to HV tomorrow, see if they have any ideas !!!

My LO is 6m and just started nursery and is on a bit of a hunger strike too. She will eat a bit of yoghurt in morning but eats very little at nursery and refuses both expressed milk and formula.

It is only 2nd day for me so just waiting to see what happens. I fed her some fruit puree tonight as an extra and will continue to give her a snack (as will get lunch and tea at nursery). As an experiment gave her expressed milk in a sippy and she drank it so will tell nursery to do that tomorrow.

Maybe you could try it? Does your LO use a cup at all?

my dd took a while to settle.
she will milk strike / hunger strike when left with people she is not happy with (we left her with FIL one day and she drank .5oz and refused food, when we picked her up she drank 10oz)
now she is settled with the CM (I'd say after a few weeks) she was a lot better.
I had worried about her losing weight, but she just made up for it later in the evening

It will take a while to settle her - I would have left her - the CM would have got her to have the bottle eventually.........probably

She won't settle down to eating until she (& you are content) it is very hard but (generally) children will not starve themselves - although it might be a day or two before she realises it

I know nothing I say will reassure you - but really she will calm down and start to eat

If she is hungry she will eat i wouldn't worry about her losing weight, even if she does lose a little bit she will soon put it all back on.

Children do tend to go off their food sometimes, its all new she's taking so much in.

I've got a new child settling with me at the moment he is older in fairness but he refused to eat at all, i didnt push it and now he has had 2 full meals the past couple of days (only comes for 3 hours a day) but he has been with me since november and we have tried assorted hours, people coming with him etc.

Easier said than done but try not to worry, the more you worry the more she will pick up on it etc
