just don't give the LO honey direct - can't recall why

crunchie · 31/12/2006 16:57

I dieted from 9 weeks after, I did slimming world (that was the first time)

there is a minute risk of infant botulism but think it was localised to canada.

JackieNo · 31/12/2006 17:09

(the infant botulism risk is if you give honey directly to the LO - not if you eat it yourself).

Slimming World is very good if you're breastfeeding

Most of the major slimming clubs have a breastfeeding diet.
I would recommend doing one of those rather than just go it alone, even if you just join to get the diet from them because they will adjust your calorie needs around your feeding.

Yes, you can eat honey and other allergenic things like nuts when bf, but advice is not to give to baby. Of course if there is any sign that bf baby is reacting to these in your diet, may be worth to speak to someone about your diet.

Yes, you can diet. Kellymom.com gives an excellent guide - she says don't eat less than 1500 - 1800 calories per day when dieting. That is about 300 - 600 cals. more than someone not bf.

Weight Watchers allow you to eat a few extra points (I think it is 5 extra points per day) when you bf an infant under a year old.

Good luck !
