Plenty of Milk But No Engorgement - Normal?

It's just occurred to me... the milk has been in a couple of days, but I haven't had any real engorgement this time around. (Second baby)

I feel the let down, there's obviously plenty there for the babe - he's feeding far better than ds1 ever did at this age. Milk came in at the end of the second day this time around and ds2 has fed frequently - is this why I haven't got engorged?

Not that I miss the feeling of swelling, heat and pain, but wondered if it was normal second time around not to get engorged when milk production kicks in.

I never got engorged, with either child. As long as baby is getting enough, I wouldn't worry

I never got engorgement with dd and she fed well. People always asked me if my milk had come in and I had no idea. It all felt the same.

I never had it first time.

You lucky, lucky, LUCKY thing

KateandtheGirls · 15/05/2004 13:36

Me too. I was waiting for the painful rock hard breasts like you always read about, but I never had them either.

No engorgement here either, only realised my milk had come in when ds looked particularly contented after feeding on the (?) 3rd day.

I was in AGONY both times! First time I woke up (v woozy after a 2 hour sleep) and thought I must have had a car crash or something it hurt so much! I was dreading it second time round but it wasn't quite as bad.

Sounds better your way!

I wish I could get mine to spray! Ds2 has a sticky eye, and it would be so much easier if I could just aim and squirt

My left breats is perfect (well a bit droopy, but not engorged) and my right is rock hard and terribly sore

I didn't get engorged when my milk came in, but I do now if she sleeps 8 hours. Fell asleep exhausted after a shower last night. Woke up 8 hours later engorged and dripping, with no idea where the bra and the nursing pads were. Have to admit I only lasted until the next time DD started thrashing and then fed her, even though I knew she wasn't really awake yet. I assume this will wear off, as it used to happen at 6 hours, which now is no problem at all.
