sns for baby who wont latch?

I'm a little bit desperate but would a sns work for a baby who won't latch?

I'm currently pumping and topping up with ff and before l chuck it in and go 100% ff (sob!) I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts / experience?

I mixed fed dd so have nothing against ff but so wanted some bf this time also!

Mine wouldn't latch because of the bottles. Breasts don't provide the instant access to milk in the same way as bottles, they have to work for let down.

I stopped bottles. A few times I pumped until let down, then put to the breast when the milk was flowing already. A couple of days later fully bf.

Some sort of nursing system? We used nipple shields until one night I couldn't be faffed and Ds just latched on. Have you seen a bf supporter , maybe NCT or lll if not an nhs one. How old is dc?

Yea it's a nursing system. Dd had tt and since snip hasn't gone back to the breast in a week now. She is 3 weeks old. Because of her tt her sucking was wrong and now it's been released she can't seem to get a good enough latch (suck?)

I have paid for a private bf counsellor who has been helpful but has now suggested the SNS .

I can't find any positive stories online for my situation so l wonder if there actually is one

This actually came up last week so you are definitely not alone OP. DS had his tt release at the same age I used nipple shields but also did a lot of skin to skin, tummy to tummy essentually laid back breast feeding until eventually he latched on himself. We kept up the shields for 6 weeks as my nipples were shredded. One of the women at our BF group used a sns she was able to wean her little fella off after a period of time. I hope things improve.

I succesfully used SNS, but for a different issue - my supply was low, and my son was on formula top ups because of low blood sugar, and after few days he "lost interest", i.e. he would latch well, but stop feeding in few minutes and wanted a bottle. So using SNS kept him motivated. I only needed to use it for 2-3 days. Not sure though if it works if a baby cannot latch to start with.

If you were going to do it I would recommend a diy sns (infant feeding tube and bottle with the teat hole opened up). Saves a lot of money if it ends up not working. Or ask at local support groups in case you can rent one. I used one with my ds for months and it saved bf for us.

Just wanted to update if anyone is searching with the same issue.

So dd2 has breastfed a few times, when my boobs are really full she's interested. When my supply is low (usually evening as l am expressing all day) I've used the SNS with breast milk and she's taken too it well and then continues to feed from me when SNS is empty.

Still feeding majority of time bm in bottle (or formula when needed). If dd2 was my first l think l could get her back on the breast for good but l don't have the time to spend 24 hours for however long it would take working on it with dd1 around.

I'm happy with the outcome as a couple of daily bf for me is better than none
