How noisy is your breastfeeding baby?

dd2 is three weeks old, and is a really noisy feeder.. dd1 wasnt this loud. I wonder if theres something wrong with her latch? she doesnt hurt me when sucking though. Sometimes she slips on and off the nipple but i think thats when the milk is too fast for her. She feeds well i think and is gaining weight... Is she just noisy or can i do something to position her better?

DS sounds like a pig, he really does... is DD abit snuffly? Could it be abit of a cold?

spinach · 24/11/2006 21:37

no, no cold... the noise is really loud sucking/slurping noise rather than snuffling like a pig (which is what dd1 did!)

yeah i guess its bit clicky... does feel not quite ri... have tried to shift her around but nothing chnages. HV and midwives haven't seemed concerned when i asked.... said it looked right to them... but i'm not convinced.... wouldnt it hurt me though if she didnt latch properly?

I was told clicky means air is going in - so not quite right. Is she gassy?

COuld your health visitor put you in touch with a bf counsellor? I would strongly recommend having one observe a feed to give you peace of mind, or help you adjust anything that needs it. Glad it is going well for you and that she is gaining weight

she's not too windy actually, and what she does have she gets rid of easily... i dont think shes gulping in air... HV useless, live in an area where i doubt they have heard of bf counsellers! am seing a cranial osteopath next week, she may be able to help.

My ds makes a lot of noise when the milk is coming really fast - I think they just can't maintain a proper latch if the milk is shooting out or they would drown.

Do you find the noise gets less as the feed goes on? ds is very slurpy-clicky at first but when the flood abates he generally calms down into nice quiet chomping.
