whats next after 5x 8oz bottles? dumb question?

my LO is 14 weeks and having 8oz 5times day and sleeping usually 10hours a night

9lb 5 birthweight and following top percentile so a big lad for his age

whats next after 8oz 5times? will he digress back to having 6 bottles? or do i give 9oz bottles? bigger n bigger bottles?

we are told nt to ween until 6 months i think he might get to 15oz bottles by then....??

the tins dont give guide on larger amounts. the sma tin says 8oz should be 4 times day at 6 months... well he is the weight of what they estimate 6 months is on the tin

Advice used to be to wean at 4 months. Years ago it was 6 weeks. We all survived. I'd start solids soon!

mine is nearly one and only ever went up to 6oz bottles then at 6months we weaned and he just dropped feeds slowly but the volume of milk stayed the same, he now has 3 meals a day and 4 maybe 5 6oz bottles,

So you may find the milk volume doesnt increase much more or when you wean, and yeah I'd wean sooner rather than later. I was weaned at 4mo the I'm alive

It's fine to give larger bottles or more bottles, whatever he seems to want. You could also try hungry baby milk which is supposed to be more filling for them.

Don't wean yet. There is really significant evidence of harm if weaning before 17 weeks. You want to hang on as close to 26 weeks as you can. They talk about the "banana test" as well which is where they can sit in a highchair, reach, pick up and chew and swallow a piece of banana totally alone. Then they are ready for weaning (you've basically just done baby led weaning )

Being "alive" is great but there are high instances of digestive disorders in adults who were weaned back when guidelines were earlier than they are today. Weaning early is unlikely to kill your baby unless they choke but it can cause health problems later down the line.

Solids have fewer calories than milk so won't really help a hungry baby. I'd move onto 9oz then more bottles.

i dont fancy more bottles. i may up the ounces then but i think by 17 weeks he may very well be snatching food out my hand and feeding himself

I'd speak to either the health visitor or GP just to see what they say.

they can and do still advise some people to wean at 4months but that's one medical advice.

It's not so much the calories, it's more about providing food that stays in the stomach longer - ie is slower to digest.

You can buy formula milk for hungry babies that's bulked out with ??? (something), which is digested slower than the normal stuff. That might be worth a try.

Ds naturally started having less milk at 5 months so I started on fruit /veg then. Go with your baby needs if want more they will tell you - either more regularly or bigger bottles both are fine!

icklekid - yes but still not before 17 weeks. OP's baby is only 14 weeks.
