Breastfeeding toddler to sleep.

Up until recently 2 year old would quite happily go down for a nap after lunch, he would always fall asleep on the breast. Now he no longer falls asleep from breastfeeding and fights sleep. It is getting impossible to get him to stay still long enough to fall asleep. He is tired, probably overtired. At night he has a feed, I settle him and he falls asleep by himself but during the day this just doesn't work.
Any suggestions how to help him settle himself for naps, now breastfeeding no longer works?

Beanfrog - my 20 month old is also beginning to fight daytime naps, though she needs them. I've taken to standing by her cot and rubbing her back till she nods off. Takes about 2-5 minutes.

Breastfeeding hasn't worked for us for ages - unlike dd1 - dd2 would be wide awake after feeds even at 4 months! She was the veritable bionic non-sleeping baby.

So in the evening she breastfeeds, then we brush teeth, have a story and 9 times out of 10 she settles herself fine with no further input from me.

Good luck

Ds was a terible sleeper as a baby too, I thought we were finally getting somewhere

He's in a bed, has been since 15 months so it's really difficult to get him to stay put if he doesn't want to.
