Likelihood of getting pregnant whilst EBF?

DD is 5 months and EBF. She has 5 or 6 feeds a day but we are incredibly lucky in that she dropped her night feed at around 8 weeks old and has been sleeping for 9-11 hours at night for a couple of months now. I haven't had a period since she was born. DP and I had a rare amorous night whilst staying with family at the weekend and we didn't use a condom. Am now panicking that it was a stupidly risky thing to do. Realistically what is the likelihood of conceiving when EBF? Reassuring words would be wonderful!

Ds 2 is proof that breast feeding is not adequate contraception!

Thanks Pippi. Were you EBF or had you started weaning? I have heard of people falling pregnant when they have dropped to 2 or 3 feeds a day but not when EBF, (she says, clutching at straws)...

95% up to 6 months if ebf, no dummies etc and no food. Check out nhs website.

Thank you, McBaby, I think the odds are incredibly slim - it's just the fact that I don't feed DD at night that is making me anxious. I will keep everything crossed - we would love another baby but I imagine that a 14 month age gap would be incredibly hard work!

No, it is only effective if the baby is feeding every 4hrs at least during the day and every 6hrs at least over night. The NHS misses out that vital piece of information.

My baby was 11 weeks old and feeding 2 hourly when I ovulated. She had never gone more than 2.5hrs between feeds.

You cannot rely on it if your baby is sleeping through. Personally, I wouldn't rely on it anyway.

Thank you, Grantaire. I hope that luck is on our side!
