Hi. My baby has thrush and has been on dakatrin gel for 3-4 weeks. i am also on daktarin gel and vinegar solution just in case. I also fed DD probiotic twice a day and i am on probitoic twice a day however it is not recovering yet still a cloud of persistent white patches. How long can we repeat daktarin gel on baby or should i switch to the safer option nystatin? Which is full of sugar. Help.. ur reply will help a lot

My baby developed thrush at about 2 weeks, we were prescribed daktarin gel for her and the cream for me. We had two rounds of this followed by 2 rounds of nystatin plus the fluconazole capsules for me. None of it worked, doc eventually said that if it wasn't causing any discomfort/feeding issues for either of us then maybe just leave it alone. As I had no symptoms and it was only confined to DDs tongue we just abandoned the treatments, maintained good hygiene, they say it can clear itself once baby's defences start to kick in at around 3 months, whether that's medical fact or not I can't say but lo and behold that's exactly what happened for us, now at 4 months there's only a wee bit left, doc did swab though just to ensure it was thrush we were dealing with.

Does your baby have a nappy rash?

Daktarin gel won't clear nipple thrush, you'd need cream for that.

Is it definitely thrush and not milk residue? When mine had it the spots were all over their mouth, gums, inside lips etc not just a white coating on the tongue.

I echo what westeringhome says. We bounced between nystatin and daktarin for weeks. The thrush only cleared up when we had a break from treatment.

I dont have nipple thrush. The gel is for prevention only plus i also use vinegar solution.
Dd doesnt have nappy rash only tongue.
I believe it is thrush because i cant wash it off and it gets thicker. with my first lo i battle thrush 2 times 3 months each. so that is 6 months.. thats why i dont think it recover itself.
@bakingbunty does it recover after all the switching? How many course did u use?

Westeringhome how did you maintain the clean hygiene? Do u still use gel just in case of passing back n forth the thrush?

We had a course of nystatin, a course of daktarin and then two more of nystatin and another of daktarin Shock. All this before 3 months!

Has a swab been taken to confirm thrush? Just a coating on the tongue and not improving with treatment makes it sound like it might not be.
