Small hole on top of nipple. I'm confused!

My DS is 12 weeks old. I have a problem with my right nipple - there is a small hole on the top of my nipple that is red and sore. It goes after feeding, but appears during the feed. It's like the top of my nipple opens up. It's really sore during the feed because of this. I've had it for several weeks.

I'm confused what could be causing this. I have had the latch checked lots due to initial problems with cracks. DS had a posterior tongue tie cut 5 weeks ago. Since then the cracks have hugely improved. Just have very faint ones to base of nipple which are hopefully healing too.

I do get some throbbing pain to the nipple in-between feeds and also sometimes my nipple looks puckered.

Any thoughts what is going on?

Sounds like it's worth getting checked out.

It's likely to be something to do with the way your ds is attached. Maybe there is a tongue tie still, maybe there is a change you could make to how he gets on?

The other possibility is an inflamed montgomery's tubercle. Your GP might have a view, or even a dermatologist. Google for this, to see if the 'hole' is where a tubercle might be - it's not clear where you mean in your post.

I've googled but don't think that is it. The soreness is where the milk comes out. After feeding, the bit where the milk comes from is really red. There is maybe a 4mm round opening (hole!) I'm not sure if there is a small red blister there. Sorry, it's hard to explain.

I think you're right, I should probably get things checked with GP and will get the latch looked at again. It's just annoying as feeding is painful still because of this raw bit of skin that just won't heal

Those exit points can become inflamed and even infected, too, lou. Def a visit to GP.
