Leaving ebf baby for a day

I'm working a kit day next week and it will be the first time I've left DS all day. I know he'll take bottles so I'm not worried about that, but how long can I go without breastfeeding before I get really uncomfortable? I'd rather not express at work if I can help it.

Also, I'm busy the following day as well for about two thirds of the day. It's a complete coincidence that I have to leave him two days running! How long is it before supply is interrupted due to not feeding?

He is seven months so supply is well established and he has started weaning, eats three small meals a day but hasn't really cut down on milk.

I'm sure people with more exp will be along shortly but I can start.

I had to leave 8wo DS for 6 hours, didn't express, put him on boob within seconds of coming back and expressed the other manually at the same time - it was not painful but more like I was about to burst
I would definitely pump (and dump if necessary) if it was more than 6 hours

Thanks elo :) At that young I definitely would have struggled to! DS doesn't feed as frequently now and in the evenings I don't feed from 5-11 so I can do some stretches of time without discomfort. I wonder if it's different because DS is older?

Evening mnetters, any thoughts?

I think you are going to need to express at work, I'm afraid, or you'll risk getting mastitis. Once you're back at work properly, you'll be able to wind down the expressing to nothing when you're at work, but for a one-off KIT day, you'll get pretty uncomfortable and possibly leak embarrassingly voice of bitter experience

ChunkyPickle · 02/04/2015 18:16

I think it depends. At 6 months I'd have been fine with my second, but my first would have required a quick trip somewhere private to relieve pressure before I leaked...

How long does he go between feeds during the day usually? If it's 4-6 hours you'll probably survive, if he's a frequent feeder it might be worse.

Hmm quite frequent during the day! He's a bit of a snacker. Looks like I'll have to express then, I do not want mastitis! I've never been able to hand express, not even when i first started and had oodles of milk. So I'll have to take my electric pump. I guess though if I'm bursting it might be easier to hand express? I've also never leaked, never used breast pads!
