6 week old and painful nipple

Hiya
My 6 week old has taken to bfing really well although we had to top up at the start he loves the boob.

Over the past week or so his feeding has become a lot harder leading to one nipple being quite painful but both sides being different to how he used to feed. His latch hasn't changed but I'm wondering if teething could cause this? He was born with a tooth so I'm fully anticipating early teething.

Congrats on your baby :) Is nipple pinched at all after you feed?

Nope...
its also the areola which is painful more so than the nipple. I had cracked nipples before and this feels nothing like it.

His tooth is at the back and is coming through more. could this be it?

Could you see a lactation consultant? The problem with having pain when you feed is each feed causes more trauma to the nipple - or at least that was my experience. I wondered might the underlying cause for you be a tongue tie ... Or a poor latch? Either way - a lactation consultant is the way to go- don't suffer through it! Sorry I'm not more help!

Yep I think I will. Is the best way through contacting my hv?
