Hi all, my younger sister has a son who's 7 months old on the 1st of April and she's having some real trouble with him keeping down feeds! Now he's currently 19lb's and the happiest little fella you could wish for.... but his vomiting is really taking its toll, she has spoken to the GP several times but because he's not in any way under weight her calls are not being heeded. She has tried several different brands - Aptimal Hungry - SMA Keep Down and Hipp Organic etc but for no improvement. He's also had Omeprazole prescribed but this again has had little if no effect! she really is beginning to stress out about this so I'm looking for any good advice. Thank You.

Is he distressed? In pain?

My 2nd, a little boy, was what the GP referred to as a "happy chucker". He gained weight well, was happy but did just vomit. A lot. He suddenly grew out of it. Almost overnight. The GP said that would probably happen as his gut matured. He was around 7 or 8 months.

Ds2 had 'silent' reflux but was putting on weight, for your nephew I think the sickness would only be seen as a problem if he was uncomfortable, does he seem in pain after or during a feed? ds2 seemed most uncomfortable around half an hour after a feed.
He was prescribed Gaviscon which I think helped thicken the feed which I think made it less likely to reappear. We saw countless gps before they eventually referred us to a consultant, who listened carefully and quickly got exactly the right diagnosis!

Don't want to diagnose, but from the symptoms that you are describing, they sound identical to my DS, who is currently under a consultant paediatrician and being checked for CMPA ( Cows Milk Protein Allergy) .

Your poor DN, it really is so unpleasant for them to go through. My advice would be to go back to the GP and to ask to be referred to the hospital. That's what I did. My DS has been vomiting since birth. He is now 9 months and we were told it was reflux and given Ranitidine and Omerprazole. Neither worked.

We are currently trialling a prescription only cows milk protein free formula and seeing how we go in terms of how the vomiting is.

I really hope that you get the help and diagnosis you need for your DN. Definitely push for a hospital appointment though, as we had to.

Good luck

Forgot to add... My little DS is a happy baby and gaining weight. Consultant was pleased with this but still feels it could be CMPA

Hi, and thank you,
No he doesn't and has never seemed or sounded in pain or discomfort whatsoever he generally feeds really well and then maybe 5/10 mins after is sick and this continues over the next hour! But he continues to gain weight and is a good weight with good bone development? so this continues to confuse us all as he brings up quite a bit of his food. I must stress that mum doesn't give him any 'extra' feeds and hes a steady 3/4 hours on demand feeder?

Yes definitely going to consider the Cow's Milk alternatives. Now Mum had absolutely no Cow's milk as a baby herself (Born with a hole in her heart) wether this has anything to do with anything is probably stretching the issue a bit too far, but all thoughts considered at this point tbh.
