Bottle fed 3mth- weight gain has slowed down

My DS is now 14 wks, had small issues of weight gain at first but was then drinking lots upto 150ml per feed within 2 weeks , after moving from bf to bottle. Birth weight 8-10 now 14lb

Has slowed down at 180 per feed although rarely hits that now. Got gaviscon from doctor and also been given advise to feed less often and take back to 150ml , which I think it's paradoxic!!

He does one night feed , which is actually now about 5am. Any advices tricks to keep him concentrating on feed.

Thanks

Weight gain does slow down as they reach 3 months. This is normal (so long as he's still gaining & not losing). Sometimes they will increase feed volumes at growth spurts & then it will settle back down afterwards.

You say the doctor has advised to feed less often & less volume & that he has been prescribed gaviscon - for what reason? Was he feeding very frequently? Does he have reflux? Advice for reflux is often to feed smaller volumes (to reduce spitting up) but this would usually be more frequently not less.

How often is he feeding now? Ideally baby should be having approx 2.5oz per lb (150ml per kg) in 24hrs, so if your baby weighs 14lb then ideally should be having around 35oz (950ml) in 24hrs. Split between say 5-6 feeds = between 5-7oz (160-190ml) per feed. This appears in line with what you say he is having so I don't think there is any need to worry.
