Hi all I am trying to start bf after stopping for over 6 weeks now. My son was bf for the first month, but I stopped due to having only a 2onth age gap between my two and basically being exhausted! My son had IUGR through a placental abruption so I have been told he is liable to always feed a lot- and he does! So this deterred me from bf too as the constant feeding seemed unlikely to chnage... However since giving it up we have got a bit more rest and a bit more into a routine and basically I miss it and regret being so hasty.

I cannot take fenugreek due to thyroid being slightly over active (slowly going down so no need for meds yet) but I am drinking fennel tea and eating lots of oats. Anyone out there relactated after such a long time? How often do you drink this fennel tea too btw?! It's yum so I don't mind too much :) I'm expressing 8 times a day and through the night so I am giving it my all, but due to traumatic labour I needed domperidone to boost my supply initially , so I am worried it will not come back again properly. I am getting drops and it has increased the more j pump, my son will go the breast and suckle, but only for a a few seconds... Though in hopong the more my milk is in, the more he will.

Google lactation cookies, not tried them myself, but there's lots of women in my area that swear by them.

Good luck. It sounds like you've been through a lot.

There might be some ideas in here.

Is seeing a lactation consultant a possibility at all? They would be very supportive.

I cannot afford a lactation consultant, however I am going to a bf group this Friday. I have also called my doc and asked for some domperidone which I hope he will prescribe... Awaiting his call. Thanks for the link - that site is really helpful!

I know private lactation consultants are pricey. I assume you're not in an area with easily available NHS ones? Hopefully the breastfeeding group will know about local possibilities. I do wish you well; it takes real determination to relactate, but it really can be done.

Kellymom is a lifeline for breastfeeding support!

Thanks three! Thankfully a friend has forwarded one she knows onto me (a free lactation consultant) I have also left a voicemail for my local one bf advisor.
