7 week old stopped cluster feeding and feeding less frequently

Hi All, my ds is 7 weeks today and until the last few days was cluster feeding every evening from 6-10ish and has been very fussy from about 5ish. The last few days he has been cutting this down a bit, either starting a bit later or finishing earlier. Tonight he had a big feed at 6 and has been asleep since! Is it normal that he has stopped cluster feeding already? Is it just typically a newborn thing? I think i'm just worrying because he seems to have started spacing feeds out all of a sudden too to about 3 hourly from around 2 hourly just last week and sometimes lots more inbetween. My breasts suddenly feel quite full and I don't want my milk supply to drop.

Just for background, we suspected he may have reflux but werent 100% sure, my gut said no but sometimes it seemed like he might have. The GP prescribed infant gaviscon which we decided to try starting last Wednesday. He did seem more settled but he also started smiling last week so I suspected he had just naturally settled. By Sunday he was so constipated and in pain from the gaviscon that I decided to stop it. He did more poo than I have ever seen and then seemed fine. He has remained settled so I suspect my gut was right that it wasnt reflux all along. However it is since then that he has been feeding less frequently...just coincidence? Has he just passed the newborn phase? Or something else?

DD stopped cluster feeding in the evenings at around 9 weeks (although it felt like it went on for years!). I really wouldn't worry, your baby will let you know when he's hungry.

DD stopped cluster feeding around then, so long as you're gett plenty of wet nappies everything should be fine! Think they learn to get more efficient as time goes on an their bellies get bigger :)

Thanks both, that is very reassuring. I actually enjoyed the cluster feeding for the most part as it made me feel like feeding was going well (my DS1 didnt do it and I always worried my supply was low). Now I feel quite empty although I know it is probably just that my supply has settled.

I do feel like my DS isnt taking full feeds still though...his suck feels lazy and he keeps falling asleep on the breast. He has also been having periods of crying and arching his back/head away from me when I pick him up and I can feel him tensing his tummy muscles. Would wind cause him to feed less?
