crying a lot after tongue tie snip

hello! my dd is 3 and a half weeks old and this morning she had her tongue snipped for a slight tongue tie, she was relatively calm and only cried a little bit after having it done but this afternoon she has been really upset and crying a lot .We've fed her ( bottle of ebm as she's too upset to try breastfeeding and she much prefers the bottle) and winded her, changed her but she is crying more than usual (with tiny sleeps in between). Maybe the experience was a bit stressful? we haven't been out much with her yet (gentle strolls and a couple of trips to the gp) so maybe she's a bit sensitive to all the new experiences at the hospital coupled with having a stranger poke her fingers in her mouth?!she seems really tired but wont sleep for long (she slept after being danced to disco which is her favourite)has anyone had a similar experience after a tongue tie procedure?

She's probably sore. We were advised the following:

  • rub a little dentinox teething gel on the wound before a feed (providing no allergies).
  • attempt breastfeeding for 15-20 mins before offering the bottle (or Google finger feeding) to prevent reattachment.
  • don't leave longer than 3 hours between feeds
  • protect your milk supply by expressing if offering top ups

Good luck.

oh thats great advice thank you! The mw who did it just to us to carry on as normal- maybe because it was only a very small tongue tie. She's finally asleep now (my partner took her out for a walk) so hopefully when she's awake i'll offer the breast and fingers crossed we have a good feed and if not I've been expressing like a mad woman :-)

Oh that's great. Forgot to say that if you are bottle feeding, use the slowest flow teat and Google paced bottle feeding.
You don't want baby to prefer the ease of it.

My DS was a bit unsettled for a few days after his TT snip, I'm sure it is a bit sore for them. Dentinox and lots of cuddles! Smile
