6mo refusing milk/food. Dry nappies for the last 2 days.

My almost 6mo ds2 has bee teething for the last 3 months (no teeth but all the teething pain/symptoms). He also seems to have stomach discomfort as he arches his back in pain when bottle feeding. I do some bf's but don't have enough milk as can only feed from one side and ds is a big boy at about 21lbs.

For the last 2 months feeding has been really difficult and he only wants a couple of oz every hour. I suspect silent reflux but gaviscon and changing formula has made no difference.

He also has a cold and cough so is out of sorts from that.

We had started weaning last week and he seemed briefly much happier on solids. But now the last 2 days he has refused all food and milk and his nappies are mostly dry. The only thing he wants is occasional bfs.

He seems okay in himself - a bit mizzy and grimacing in pain but still sitting up and laughing too - so i don't really know if this is just a normal reaction. We never had this with ds1.

Ds had pneumonia at 8 months and was still smiling and trying to stand up in his cot. Some children act well when they are unwell so it's best that you get him checked out. Keep bf him, he needs fluids. He sounds as though he could be dehydrated though, especially as he's not weeing. You need to give out of hours a call and get him seen by someone ASAP.

I hope he's OK.

If he has had dry nappies for that long he needs to be seen today.

If he is having dry nappies you need to get him Seen straightaway. He sounds badly dehydrated.

Lolly86 · 22/02/2015 09:08

With dry nappies I would get him soon asap hope he's ok

Seen not soon

Two days of dry nappies? Get to A&E now Seriously. Right now.
Dehydration can lead to organ damage very very quickly in one so young.

My DS was projectile vomiting and food/milk refusing at 6 months but still laughing and giggling too. He also had dry nappies for 18 hrs and was admitted to hospital. 48 hrs is very serious. Go to hospital now

MrsKoala · 22/02/2015 09:26

okay i'm not overreacting then. off to a&e. thanks all.

Well done. Fingers crossed for you.

How is he op?

MrsKoala · 22/02/2015 11:16

At the hospital. They think he is fine. Not dehydrated as his skin and vitals are all good and he's dribbling and alert.

given a syringe of dioralyte and observing for an hour. But all seems fine and they think we are loons. But that's okay. Id rather that than an alternative outcome. Cheers all.

Hope he is okay MrsK.

This is great news. I'm sure they're glad they can happily discharge Smile

TakingTheStairs · 22/02/2015 11:58

That's good news. I hope you get some help for the feeding issues too
