Can I give 6 month old expressed milk in a sippy cup?

Just that really.

I'm very keen to get DS to take expressed milk. He hasn't taken a bottle yet. He is very hands on with food and likes to be holding everything. I thought maybe a sippy cup might work better?

Has anyone done this?

We used a doidy cup from about 4 months fine

Thanks Art. I've never heard of a doidy cup so will google.

DC1 was a bottle refuser and I fed her for 2 years without her once taking milk from a source other than my boob. The lack of freedom almost drove me mad. I'm determined to do it differently this time.

Yep I started giving DS a sippy cup with expressed milk at about 6 mo.

We used the cheapy Tommee Tippee cups with the flip spout.

Then gradually moved on to giving him water. It took a while before he mastered the cup alone!

Yes... My Dd alway had any EMB in a sippy cup from 6 months.

TheEagle · 15/02/2015 17:04

Oh and I didn't bother heating the expressed milk after a while because he quite liked it cold Smile

Thanks all.

I just tried for 20 minutes but DS was having none of it. He's definitely hungry.

DP has banished me upstairs thinking that DS is more likely to take the cup if I'm not around. I can hear DS grumping away. Urgh.

Can I ask for a bit more help?

He won't take the milk at all. Have tried sippy cup and bottle. Warm milk, room temp and cold. With him in his high chair holding it himself. Me helping him. DP helping him.

Nada Sad . He just shakes his head and turns away. And cries for boob. I don't know whether to give in and feed him or keep trying with the cup.

Do I just persevere? Any advice/experience would be great.

I don't know if I can really help but sorry that it's so frustrating!

We used the cup more so that DS would drink something other than BM and just used the BM as a hook to get him interested in the cup iyswim. We just used it at meals to start with.

Maybe if you boobed him first and then gave him his little meal and a cup it might encourage him?

It's hard to get the cup going but it will happen eventually!

Plus by 8/9mo DS had cut down his breastfeeds a lot so there was time for a break!

I wouldn't try it in the cup at a time when he is hungry for milk. Why not offer it in a cup at meal times alongside food
