Ms ds isn't interested in bf any more, it seems. I made the mistake of adding too many formula top-ups over time (he's now 4 mths), which I know hasn't helped. I've been giving bf for first feed of the day and as snacks between meals and tried before bottles up till now. Gradually he's less and less interested. He doesn't seem to want to lie down to feed, he has suffered from reflux, but isn't bothered sitting up. He is teething, I think. He starts off really keen but after a few sucks he's more busy looking round, though a quiet room doesn't help. Otherwise he just gets cross and cries. I know the milk is there, I can hear gulping and I'm feeling uncomfortably full now. Useless at expressing though, it takes soooooo long for a tiny amount. I hate it. What can I do? Is there anything I can do? I'm feeling heartbroken. I suppose it had to end sometime, but so soon?

Well done Num - it'll get easier as time goes by. I well remember ds1 being hopeless at bf when he was born - by the time he was 10 days old he'd gone from 9lb 12oz birth weight to 7lb 12oz! Someone had given him a bottle despite the fact it was written all over my notes not to.
mw advised me to express to improve supply - the first day i did it all afternoon and got 1oz. The next day it was 4oz. Soon I was squirting all over the place and ds1 fed till 7 months. Apparently I've got very flat nipples which was why it was hard for him to start and then he gave up when solids were more interesting.
When I had ds2 i put him straight on the boob at 15 mins old - never looked back, but strangely he gave up at exactly the same age.

Sorry - 9lb 8oz birth weight but still a dangerous loss

hi num -

I always used to express after getting out of the bath or shower - nice warm boobs help! Just try it little and often, and I'm sure your supply will kick back in soon good luck

YES! I remember mw advising me to drape warm flannel over when in the bath - that worked for me - I'd forgotten that.

Hello all, just popping on to let you know how things are going. Today and yesterday, ds fed morning and evening for about five minutes each side. I've been expressing by hand as much as I can, which isn't as often as I'd choose and not for very much but I can see a gradual improvement, will try your suggestions, too. Dp went to the health shop and got me some fenugeek, which I thought would be in capsules but is in it's natural form. Not sure how much to take or how to take it, does anyone know? Think I'll have to start a seperate thread for that one. Anyway, things have improved. Ds struggled to finish a couple of his bottles!
