Cannot remember for the life of me how to stop sore nipples.

I think baby is latched on a lot of the time which will make her sore.

Any ideas as I know she doesnt want to stop. It is the pain which is making her want to stop.

katie - I think the NCT helpline is great, too, but it's not true that we will send a breastfeeding counsellor round, sorry! There are only a few hundred breastfeeding counsellors, all volunteers, and they are not evenly 'spaced'....there are many hundreds of square miles without a bfc anywhere

It's up to the volunteer whether she can manage the time to see someone - often, we do see people, but mostly the help is on the phone because of limits to time and availability.

Just making sure no one's hopes and expectations are raised too high

Lansinoh, and breast shells between feeds. Poor thing, I remember it well. I hope she comes out the other side of it soon.

I had loads of trouble....nipple shields were a god send once i discovered them. Also i expressed and gave him one bottle a day...i know some people are v. anti this but it meant i fed him for 4.5 months rather than giving up at 4 weeks...

the mental relief of having one feed per day that was stress free was heaven and if it keeps her going longer than thats great. I also froze milk for growth spurts and it really helped with my sanity levels.

plus Lanisoh really works....quickly too.

Silver healing is the most effective and natural way (from my experience!). You can get a silver healing breastpad or sterling silver cups for breast/nipple pain from www.breastfeedingheaven.co.uk. I was COMPLETELY HEALED within 30 hours...

Oh, sorry tiktok, I didn't realise that. I called them out twice and they were a godsend.

all suggestions here are great. don't forget to tell her re: putting finger in baby's mouth when de-latching..any "pulling" when breaking the suction makes things much, much worse.

All these tips worked for me, lansinoh, perseverance, bit of expressing to give myself a break, breaking the sucky seal with my little finger (otherwise my midwife said I would have the longest norks in the world tee hee)

Would paracetamol be useful for the pain? Also a cold cabbage leaf in the bra is lovely on red hot bosoms.
Good luck for the SIL, breast feeding is - eventually - lovely, but formula feeding isn't the end of the world.
