How quickly did people lose weight after birth? Anything help? I had SPD in pregnancy and think that's why I put on my weight in the last few months of pregnancy - put on just over three stone (was 8 1/2 st before) - I have an event in two months time, my little one is 7 wks old and I have still only lost 1st - some good news stories would be great!!!!

blimey - I'd say your was a good news story!
I didn't lose an ounce while I was feeding even though I stuck to WW diet. Once I stopped the weight just dropped off without me even trying!

BadHair · 02/10/2006 22:07

Yes, I was the same as Tommy. Didn't lose anything while feeding, and although some came off after I'd stopped I've never lost all of it. Sorry - I guess that's not what you want to hear!

Breastfed both mine. First time, weight dropped off as I tailed the breastfeeding off at about 9 months and ended up half a stone lighter than before preganancy.

Second time I put on about 3 and half stone. Didn't lose much till after about 8 months, then it started to go slowly after stopping b/feeding. Again, ended up half a stone lighter than prior to pregnancy.

So am now a whole stone lighter than I was before ever being pregnant.

I am breastfeeding at 6 months and still have 11 lbs to go to my pre-pregnancy weight. You know what? I'm not that fussed. With dd1 I actually stopped feeding at 6 months so I could diet and get back to my normal weight. I regretted it so much, this time around I'm just happy feeding dd2 and exercising. I expect a lot of it will go when I stop feeding, at the moment I'm just doing loads of walking and trying to eat properly.

tutu100 · 02/10/2006 22:46

I lost weight whilst breastfeeding and got within 4lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight, however forgot to reduce what I ate once I stopped breastfeeding and now weigh a stone more than I did before I was pregnant! Just to warn people you can't keep eating whole packs of jaffa cakes once you've stopped bf and not gain weight!

I never lost an ounce while bfeeeding, I had a huge appetite, and ate for england. I lost weight without really dieting once I stopped. took me more than a year to go back to more or less the same weight.

juuule · 02/10/2006 23:14

I have to say that I never lost any weight while bf.
It was only once I stopped breastfeeding that my appetite decreased.

bubble99 · 02/10/2006 23:18

I think it's a myth that breastfeeding helps weight loss, TBH. It never happened for me at all. I suspect that the opposite is true, that the body stores fat to enable BF.

lucy5 · 02/10/2006 23:19

No, it didn't help me and I breastfed for 17 months.

bubble99 · 02/10/2006 23:21

I think that this is a myth put about by The La Leche League to make sure that we BF.

Hi all - thanks for all your replies! Seems like the general feeling is that when you stop you can lose the weight - makes sense you store whilst feeding. I have been really determined to breastfeed (despite having mastitis 3 times) so I'm very pro the feeding, I have just been a little down about putting on some much weight but when I look at her and she smiles she is worth it! Thanks again x

I don't weigh what I did pre-pregnancy, but I was probably underweight then.

DS2 is 8mo and I weigh less now than I did when DS1 was 8mo, by about a stone. So maybe you just need to have another baby

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I bf DD for 13 mths and weight dropped off, back to pre-pg weight by 5 mths. Currently bf DS (11mths) and same thing has happened tho was a bit slower to start with, mainly due to consuming vast quantities of squash to keep fluids up. When I saw how many calories there are in squash I went back to water!
Do remember feeling quite down initially as weight wasn't dropping off very fast this time.
I put on about 2 1/2st each time and I'm no spring chicken, just lucky I guess!

VelvetMoonFrog · 03/10/2006 07:18

I put on nearly 4st , I bf for 18 months and weight didn't drop off. Still trying to lose the last two and a half stone.............. and dd is 6. But she was well worth it

notasheep · 03/10/2006 07:22

Breastfed ds for 9 months, weight dropped off and back to normal size by then
