Think i may have made a mistake by finishing BFing, is it too late to continue? He last fed 2 days ago.

just go ahead & bf

throckenholt · 02/10/2006 09:11

how old is he ?

Normally breastfeeding is supply and demand - after the first couple of months - the more you feed the more you make. So just start feeding him again and soon your body will start producing again. He may get a bit frustrated by lack of quantity to begin with - but it will improve.

he is 5 months

Shouldn't think so. Why don't you try?

FWIW, I regularly regret stopping bf with DS at 6 months (horrendous thrush epic)...

Just do it, Mandy....your milk supply will be more or less intact.

Why did you stop?

MandyBOO · 02/10/2006 10:59

He'd started to refect the breast, i was starting to feel a bit "tied" by BFing - now i just feel selfish!

OK - I think mums do sometimes stop in a low moment, but the good thing is you can, indeed, start again

You can post more about rejection of the breast if you want.

Hope it goes ok for you hun I'd feel more tied to having to make bottles, warm and sterilise tbh but that's just me.
We all get moments like this but if it's really getting you down then it isn't worth it. If it's just a blip go for it. It's been 5 years since I bf ds2 and I do miss that bond but I believe it made me closer to my sons. You've done really well to last 5 months.

Keep trying - i was in hospital in summer when dd2 was 6 months old and had to stop on and off for a fortnight while i was in (when i could feed her depended on when i'd had medication), but she came back to feeding absolutely fine and is still at it now! good luck! x

I would encourage you to try again if you can mandyb - "it is Less Work For Mother" would be my endless refrain - apart from countless other benefits.

And of course bottle fed babies do brilliantly too - but how great is it to reduce the work load?
