Finally going to stop b/f DS (nearly 3), any words of wisdom about doing this?

DS is 3 next Sunday. I feel the time is right for us to stop breastfeeding, we do two feeds a day - morning and night.

Not sure why I have decided now is the right time, I think deep down I know that for us the time is right and have been putting it off for a while. I think I now need my body back!

If you have extended fed and have some words of wisdom for me I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

No advice, sorry.

Just wanted to say congrats on bf for so long! I feel like there is pressure on me (from family, mainly MIL) to stop but my 12 month old is just not ready & neither am I. So good to know others feel the same way. Hope you get some good advice.

Hi, I'm surprised more people haven't replied to this.

There is a good book called 'How Weaning Happens' - your local La Leche League may have a copy you can borrow. There are lots of suggestions in the book for encouraging weaning. One of the suggestions is to have a weaning party and make it a celebration of the child growing up. I think one child described in the book had done this on Halloween (hallo-wean, geddit?)

I encouraged my dd1 to wean at age 2 1/2 and the main tactic I used was to reduce the length of feeds - when I wanted the feed to end I would count to ten and then she would usually unlatch herself happily. We gradually reduced the length of feeds until she was just feeding for the count of ten on most occasions.

It may sound obvious, but it's also a good idea to substitute other activities, eg extra stories, or change your bedtime routine a bit. If his dad is able to put him to bed that could help with eliminating the night time feed.

Unfortunately I posted it twice (computer having funny five mins!) and lots of people have posted on the other one!

We don't have a local LLL but will try and get a copy of that book.
