***URGENT URGENT ***** sick friend going into hospital, can her husband give the 8-month-old baby some goat's milk?

as i think that's what they have in the house and he'll be racing around all night and probably won't get the chance to buy anything else?

does anyone have any experience of this?

i wondered if solids would be okay but the baby is a champion breastfeeder and i think husband is worried that he's going to have a sick wife and a crying baby all night...

please help, she's getting taken in during the next hour so it would be good to set her mind at rest...

Goats formula yes, goat's milk.... I wouldn't although 100 years ago that would have been the thing to do.

If she has no BF milk in the fridge I would go for formula but that depends on how old the child is...

I wouldn't but would get him out to buy some soya baby formula from a supermarket. If the baby only drank a little then it might be OK for the goats milk but I would stay on the side of caution

Think I'd stick to baby formula, if no breat milk available. Do you have a late shopper near by? Does he have someone who can nip out for him if necessary?

First things first, how old is the child? would she have bottles at home? is there a history of allergies in the family (thinking of it because they have goats milk at home)?

Depends how ill you are tho Hairy! formula surely won't hurt for a small while and lets face it her milk wont dry up over night if she's been feeding for 8mths.

yes,just saying that would be my gut instinct, do everything to keep baby with me.

if not possible then there must be a 24hr supermarket where he could buy formula? or someone else could get it

ASDAs and Tescos have 24 hours service (with exception of Sunday night). They all stock formula

Most 24 hour supermarkets will be closed as Sunday tomorrow. They close earleier on Saturdays don't they? Might be open for next hour. Would think a later shopper type plave might be easier.

...but consider the fact that any baby who has not being given formula in nthe past may reject the change of flavour/bottle so he may be in for a long night anyway..

actually, thinking a bit more about it, as chandra says, baby may wel reject the milk so he may be just as well offering solids and a bottle of water.

they don't have a car, unfortunately, and live in the middle of nowhere shop-wise. they do have neighbours, though, but they've only just moved so i don't know who well they know them.

they're only in their very early 20s, a bit skint, and have moved to a new country, so i think that in order to keep things simple they were hoping to use what's in the house.

think it's a good point about the goat's milk being there in the first place though, it does suggest allergies doesn't it?

and it doesn't sound as if she's in a fit state to BF at the moment, the poor girl.

are we agreed, then, the best thing to do is try formula first and if he refuses (which lord knows he probably will as i don't think he's even had EBM before) then just keep him going on solids? i wass suggesting porridge, as it's such a carb-load...
