When did baby drain the boob/feed both sides?

Dd2 is 3 days old, my milk came in much earlier this time and I seem to have excess supply, baby has wees, poops, feeding as much as I can get her to but not draining the boob and only doing one side per feed. I remember dd1 sucking for hours and taking everything early on but she was 2 lb smaller at birth, and milk came in only on day 4/5. So what age did yours drain the boob/start feeding both sides?

DD only started doing two boob feeds at about 4 months, but she's a snacker and was on about 20 feeds a day until 3 months.

I just kept a loose eye on which boob seemed to need more attention based on size! And if she seemed hungry I'd feed for a couple of hours just from one to make sure she got hind milk.

It wasn't a very precise system but it seemed to work ok, she put on weight and made lots of wet / dirty nappies.

6 months this week and never had 2 sides.

It may take more than one feed to drain a side if the baby is feeding very little and often.

How do you know if they have drained it please?
My 3wk old seems to be able to suck for hours off one but there always seems to be something there.

That's true but generally when the boob is floppy and feels empty and your flow is v low I'd say that was drained

My DD is 15 weeks, any time my supply appears to start settling she will feed from both sides. Once she's built it back to oversupply she goes back to one side. It's very annoying...

Ds never fed from both sides in the 9 months I breasted, but I had oversupply. Don't worry your baby will take what they need and settle into a feeding routine soon, it's still very early days.

Thank you, its funny as she is my 3rd baby but first time I have managed to bf. My boobs are massive so I find it hard to tell. She feeds all evening from about 5/6 pm onwards, swapping from one side to the other and back again.
I'm sure it will settle soon (crosses fingers)
All still a big learning curve :)

:)
It's quite nice to be honest, gives me an excuse to sit around all evening watching tv and eating cake, clever girl.
