Can babies get used to formula if they don't like it?

DS1 is 6 weeks and is ebf which is going well. We're trying to get him to take a bottle at night with my milk so I can have a break now and again. He will take it but some nights are more successful than others.

He's a hungry baby and the expressing and feeding is quite tiring so we have been toying with giving him a ff at night. We tried him with aptamil last weekend and it's fair to say he hated it. Screamed the place down and then was so upset he wouldn't take a bottle with my milk after. Following night we tried mixing formula with my milk but same again. Now he's been wary of the bottle since and we feel like we've gone backwards although he took about an oz tonight.

So many mums I know mix feed their babies of the same age so is it normal for a baby to hate formula?

It's probably not disliking formula per se but more like the method of delivery. He prefers direct from the breast atm

We went through exactly the same thing with my DD (now aged 5 months) - we spent weeks trying to get her to take a bottle, at first just expressed breast milk like you but then moved onto formula as I too was finding it exhausting expressing everyday. We've found the temperature of the formula can make a big difference, my DD won't take it unless its warm (we just stand it in a bowl of boiling water for a few minutes). Also, I found the Aptamil doesn't seem to agree with her (she would often vomit soon after the formula) so have now moved to Hipp which she seems to like better. It's taken us a while to get to this stage but she'll now take a bottle of formula no problem, plus it hasn't interfered with the breastfeeding. I've found being able to have a break now and again is well worth the effort!
