MumtoAnne, I have a deep distrust of consultants. My experience of them is that they have THE most BIZZARE ideas.
Sometimes I think they say the first thing that comes into their heads and I wonder how on earth they deserve the wages they get.
Obviously I am no medical expert, but what he has said sounds utterly rubbish to me.

1)So, if you ovulate you have more blood flow? Well if that's true it's only going to be for a short time every month surely?

  1. I have started my af whilst breastfeeding all my children so please don't stop feeding just to ovulate. The likelihood is that it will happen anyway.

  2. If it turns out that increasing blood flow would help ( dubious to my mind) then how about sex (if not to painful).

It sounds as if you have had really shoddy treatment all round and perhaps you should consider complaining formally.

In my experience consultants mumble incomprehensible utterings and tell you to come back later if it's not better. I have a theory that that hope you will simply give up and not come back at all!
sorry ,not much help to you

Have read the thread. I have never heard of this sort of advice, or any info that stopping bf increases the blood flow to the perineum.

Ask your GP, ask your midwife, about this. Ask for a second opinion.

At a pinch, just tell him you've stopped bf. How is he to know otherwise? Though personally, I would prefer another surgeon - maybe one who was not so rude?
