Weird symptoms of stopping BF after 3 years...

Has anyone experienced this? I was expecting I might feel a bit hormonal or sad, but in fact I have weird physical symptoms instead. Bloated stomach, period type pains and so on. Is this normal?

No one? I am wondering if there is something more going on with my health, now, but am a bit loath to go to the GP with it as they have never been very good with anything breastfeeding-related in the past.

Bumping for you, DD breastfed well into school and cut down so gradually over so many years I didn't notice, physically, her giving up.

Have you been having normal periods throughout the BFing? If you have and aren't pre-menstrual then that might be a bit odd. That said I've no experience of quitting BF as only early days here. Have you had the symptoms for long??

I would think you should go yo the GP, I don't think they would class your symptoms as related to stopping bf so should be investigate in their own right. Could it be the stopping? Who knows, we are so short of research into how stopping affects mothers who feed for longer terms.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, periods have been normal since DS was 4 months, and I'm not premenstrual.

My reluctance to see the GP is more that I don't want to be sent off for a whole raft of unnecessary tests if it's just a simple side effect of stopping BFing. Although as no one else seems to have had the same thing, I'm a bit more concerned now.

Might it be to do with you starting to ovulate again now that you've stopped? Ovulation makes me feel a bit hormonal. You can have periods during BF without actually ovulating.
