Would this breast milk still be ok?

I expressed a bottle of breast milk on Saturday afternoon and put it straight in the fridge.

On Sunday afternoon DH took DD (4 months, EBF) out for around two and a half hours and took the bottle of milk with him in a cool bag in the changing bag. When he got back it turned out DD hadn't wanted a feed while out (mostly slept in pram!), I bf her and he put the bottle back in the fridge.

Today he's been at work.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) he is off again. Would the bottle of expressed milk be ok for him to take out with him then or is it too old and should be chucked?

TIA Smile

My understanding is breastmilk can be kept in fridge for 5 days. Not sure whether the 2.5hrs in cool bag will affect that though.

SweetPeaPods · 08/09/2014 17:50

I would chuck it to be honest.

Thanks, I suppose it's best to be on the safe side, it just seems such a shame to chuck a whole bottle! Oh well.

I would think it would be fine. Smell it and see. You can tell if milk's gone off. Breastmilk is very different to formula. It has anti bacterial properties and I really dont think 2.5 hours in a cool bag would have caused it to go off!

It should be fine, it can be out of a fridge for six hours so two hours in a cool bag and then back in fridge is fine.

Don't chuck it!

Ir will be fine. Don't waste it!

Hmmm now I can't decide what to do! Grin

Taste it, if it is off you will know!

Kellymom guidelines on breastmilk storage. It should be fine.

ilovepowerhoop · 08/09/2014 19:58

I would sniff it and taste it. If it is off you would know.

Think it's fine, I exclusively fed one of my children expressed bm and I would have used this Grin
