Just got my period after 6mon- normal?

Hello, my baby just turned 6 months and I've been combination Bf and bottle feeding. I've recently started her on solids but wouldn't say I have changed the amount she Bf's. My period just started! (I'm feeling a bit emotional about this as it feels like the end of an era...silly)... Anyway my question is, does this timing sound about right? Does it indicate that my milk is drying up? Should I just move to formula now? Thanks

some bf mum's periods start much much sooner than that (much to their disgust!). It is not a sign that you are drying up, just shows that you are ovulating again. As you are combine feeding it is more likely for periods to return sooner than someone who is just bf.

I ff two children and am bf my third, my periods returned precisely 4 weeks after each delivery :), dc3 is 5 months old and not needing any other type of top ups, so don't worry!

Exactly what the PPs have said, don't worry about the impact of your period returning on your milk supply.

Kellymom has some good info on the return of fertility when BFing.

Don't forget to think about birth control if you're not ready to conceive again. I believe the combination pill and the Mirena coil can impact milk supply so you might want to check out all your options before choosing one.

Totally normal. My period came back at 5 months this time round when I was still EBF, I'm still feeding DS2 at nearly 22 months.

I ebf and my period came back at month 2 both times. I went in to bf until 26 months. Don't worry.

My period returned exactly 4 whole weeks after my post partum bleeding ended after all 3 pregnancies. I exclusively breastfed 3 very fat babies for over 5 years in total.
I felt cheated!

also bf so im not impressed! I have read that if they are efficient feeders and dont feed for long especially at night then it can 'trick' your body into thinking you are not feeding.

Mine doesn't feed for long at night so this could possibly be the case for me.

With DS1 my periods returned at 7 months when I stopped feeding him at night.

DS2 is 6 months and mix fed and they haven't returned yet.

Mine back by 3 months, was pregnant with ds2 by 4 months..

Tandem fed them both until over 2 years so no correlation here

With my DS1 I had my period back at 4 months that was continues Bf.

...and goodness me it's quite heavy (sorry if that's tmi) hopefully subsequent ones won't be so heavy

Yeah, my first postpartum period both times was quite the Tsunami of Gore(tm). Settled down after the first couple of cycles.
