ds 4
dd nearly 3 , will stop soon.

agree with hm

breadandroses · 20/09/2006 21:24

Dd 1 - 14 mths. Was pg with dd2 and had sore boobs plus was knackered.

Dd2 - about 14 mths. Honestly don't know why- I think it was me who wanted to stop though. Didn't really enjoy having to be "available" all the time, though I did it over a year for both dds.

Both had bottles of cows milk till 2- 3.

hollyhobbie · 20/09/2006 21:24

Until 16months. By then it was down to just before nap time and bedtime.
Stopped because I'm pregnant again. DD didn't mind stopping, but I felt very sad. I just couldn't face co-feeding a baby and a toddler though.

hunkermunker · 20/09/2006 21:25

So your GP won't offer you any help unless you give up bfeeding?

Then tell him you have and see what he suggests...

staceym11 · 20/09/2006 21:26

i wanted to, i seriously did, dd spat it at me, both from breast and EBM from bottle, she litterally spat it at me and went back to sleep, after a little while i gave up and put her on formula, she didnt like that much either and never drank as much milk as she was 'supposed' to, she was weaned at 3.5 month and loves food!

am now 7 months pg and will persevere for longer and now i know about MN might get soem better advice!

Spidermama · 20/09/2006 21:27

SK I heard that the milk can taste different when you're pg so many babies stop during this time.

Mine never did, but I know others who did.

gemmiegoatlegs · 20/09/2006 21:27

Ds - 8 months. He was mad for his grub and as soon as he started getting a good variety of food he stopped wanting to bf. He went on to follow on milk from a cup.
DD - 4 months. I was preparing to go back to work and couldn't be doing with the chew on of expressing. As soon as she got a taste for formula that was it for her. I was hoping to still bf evenings, nights and before work but was she interested? was she nelly! I felt really sad as she is my baby, not likely to have any more, sigh

staceym11 · 20/09/2006 21:28

my friends lo self weaned when she was pg as it went back to colostrum so he decided he didnt want it!

DD - fed til she was 13months and she self-weaned gently and with no fuss. Just gradually drank less at her last feed until it was going through the motions really.
DS - fed til 12 months. Was still having 2 feeds, morning and bedtime, but then started biting every single time. Wasn't taking much and so called it a day (a week ago).Feel quite sad really - like we ended on a bad note (it HURT!). But he seems unfazed and I suspose it was pretty much initiated by him. He hasn't rooted at all, and seems not to have been effected, hopefully.
Neither took to having a bottle of EBM, so it's been me all the way.

TheBlonde · 20/09/2006 21:34

17mths I think, stopped cos I got pg

ATeddyIsForLife · 20/09/2006 21:40

DD - 4 months and something.

I enjoyed it and did it untill it felt right. But I was tired, exhausted to be precise and crying a bit too much etc. I needed a break in order to keep some kind of sanity.

Any way the HV told me off when I asked if I could introduce at least one formula a day. That p**ed me off immensely.

I will do it again, hopefully untill 6 months but I won't beat myself if don't.

northender · 20/09/2006 21:40

6 months with both ds and dd. It felt right for me on both occasions and neither of them put up a fight!

Posey · 20/09/2006 21:46

Dd - 12 months, although had been mixed feeding for 6 months. Bf tailed off over 6m til bottle just took over.
Ds - about 26 months, possibly slightly longer, but at bed time only by then. Was on just morning and bedtime from about 18 months I think. I stopped because I had really begun to feel I'd done it long enough and while he was happy enough to stop, equally he would have carried on if I let him. He still likes my boobs and strokes them if we have a cuddle.

sweetkitty · 20/09/2006 21:54

hey hunker you want to join the club ttc no 3 next year it's the clary sage oil can't get enough of the stuff

WriggleJiggle · 20/09/2006 21:54

My Grandad once told me that when he was at school he remembers mothers coming to the school at lunchtime so their little ones could have a feed!

I guess they must have been about 5 years old probably.

chipmonkey · 20/09/2006 21:54

ds1 12 months, thought a year was enough
ds2 13 months, as per ds1 thought a year was long enough but my neighbour convinced me that it was better to continue to bf while on hols as it would be more convenient that weaning. She was right of course
ds3 still going at 21 months. This child will not self wean if left to his own devices so will be weaned at 2!

nowanearlyNicemum · 20/09/2006 21:56

8 months - felt like the right time for us both

alibobble · 20/09/2006 22:18

10 weeks. Had intended to feed for 6 months but dd was such a faffy feeder. Had inverted nipple on one side so she wouldn't feed properly from that side so never really stimulated milk supply properly. Then dd got thrush and wouldn't bf at all but took expressed milk from a bottle. Then I got mastitis! That was it really! I was exhausted and crying all the time. Felt guilty for wanting to give up but was frustrated with sitch. Hated it by the end. DD now on bottles and i feel a million times better and dd v happy! Old HV not supportive of decision but luckily have moved and new HV says "We have to live in the real world" and understood my reasons. I know I made the right decision now but would still try again with any further tiny people!

es, 4 month, was adviced to stop bf due to him having reflux, but gaining weight well, grrr...and didn't seek furhter info!
He was walking and what not well before he stopped sicking up all over the place, sigh!
Ms, was almost 10 month...he got his first tooth august teh 3. and therefafter bid me every single time, once he was satisfied and just laughed when I crinched in pain, lil bugger! He had lucklily already stopped refluxing at 6 month +
Ys was 13 m + by the time he stopped....again would have loved to continoue feeding...went through a nursing strike which caused him to bite a fair bit, but he never seemsed to do it nastily or out of spite...but then he just wasn't bothereed at ll and just even went to bed without a feed, etc....I didn't not offer, I jsut didn't offer as easily and he weaned off then!

bakedpotato · 20/09/2006 22:27

Between 7/8 mths for both.
OMG I hated breastfeeding.

eidsvold · 20/09/2006 22:30

dd2 was about 18 months old when I stopped - only cause I got a very bad case of food poisoning and had to have very strong medication.
