.. he's got the hang of water from a sippy cup, so tried him with formula tonight. has always refused in the past, but thought now he can do water, he might do milk (wont do bottles). But he literally gagged on it like I was poisoning him. Does this mean he'll never take formula and I'll have to bf till the full year? Then what if he doesnt like cows milk? This is a whole new world, as ds1 was bottle fed. ds2 is 7 months by the way. I just want to cut out the bedtime bf to give me a bit of time to run and get back into shape (I know, selfish mummy).

Hi mustrunmore. Can you not express or have you tried this already?

barmybinky · 18/09/2006 00:06

I would try expressed milk first off. You can store it in the fridge or freezer.... see the kellymom website for more information about storage and warming.

If all your Lo has had since birth is BM then it's not surprising that he hasn't taken kindly to formula. The taste difference is considerable (if you have ever tasted either?!). You could also try different formula's, maybe it's the particular one you bought that he doesn't like?!

If you want to switch to formula eventually then I would express and mix it with formula 90/10 for a few days, then 80/20, and so on, until you have 100% FF.

Did try ebm too, but he doesn't take it either. so if he's not going to take either, i thought I might aswell persevere with the formula, as expressing is so time consuming. I did try the mixing, but perhaps thats worth another go.
Thanks for your replies.

AMPTIMIL IS VERY SWEET TASTING LIKE BM HE MAY PREFER THIS. HTH (SORRY CAPS ON)

Will he take it from a spoon? I know my daughter will drink milk from a spoon as she does at breakfast time and she still won't entertain any kind of milk in a cup OR bottle!
Might be worth a try if desperate!

Actually, thats one method I haven't tried!
Thought about changing formula too, but then I realised that I wont know what tastes like breastmilk unless i try some - yuck!

Tastes nothing like you expect it to do. Very sweet, I can't believe you haven't tried.... LOL

LOVL I can't believe you haven't tasted it either!

I would describe it as having the consistency of skimmed milk whilst tasting like sweet single cream. YUM
