Breastfeeding every 2-3 hours

Hi - is it normal for a 9 week old baby to need feeding every 2-3 hours during the day? Am exclusively breastfeeding. She used to go every 3-4 but seems to have regressed over the last few weeks. I don't mind feeding her - I'm not working at the moment - but wondered how long it takes to go a bit longer, say every 4 hours, between feeds?

Amijee, I've fed my nearly 8mo DS2...er, twice since 8am - and once was a quick suck while DS1 was having his feet measured in Clarks. I've bfed for about ten minutes today in total - and that's not an unusual day. DS2 has had a sniff of porridge for breakfast and nothing else - he'll have some dinner. Again, not unusual.

I'm going back to work next month and expect to express twice while at work (going back three days a week) and bfeed the rest of the week on demand and in the night as and when - it puts him back to sleep, doesn't take ages to finish and I can do it lying down.

Piece of piss, bfeeding an older baby IMO and IME. Except when he nips me... [ow]

So it doesn't have to be prohibitive, it doesn't have to be endurance and it does get easier - it has twice for me.

my ds is 7 weeks today and i am going back to work when he is 16 weeks - so my guess is he won't even be on solids.

Interesting thing happened last night. I encouraged him to space out the feeds a little more yesterday ( by playing and him sleeping over the feed time - he was never not fed when he needed it) He averaged 2.5 - 3 hrly during hte day which I was happy about. However - I have had the night from hell! I fed at: 10pm, midnight, 02.00, 04.00, 05.00 and 06.30!!

So his total number of feeds remained the same - he just did them all at night!! His usual is to go 3 hrs between the 1st 2 night feeds which gives me some sleep at least.

So - i'm back to letting him rule the roost!! But still can't see me continuing like this when i return to work.
